One of the difficult things about religion is that we are asked to believe in what we can’t see. In our culture we are taught that seeing is believing and if you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist. However to live out our faith we have to believe in the Unseen. We are asked to believe that God’s Spirit is in me and in you and in this world. I heard recently that the word “religion” comes from a combination of two words. “Ligation” means to tie things together and “re” means to do again. So religion is meant to tie things, namely us, back to a sense of purpose. For most of us that purpose has to do with the One true God.
You may or may not remember the times your mother held you in her arms and cradled and sheltered you. Even if you don’t remember or can’t picture it in your mind, for most of us, it did happen, and we are different today because of it. Well, even if you can’t see God holding you in His everlasting arms, He is still doing it. He is our shelter from every storm, even though we can’t see Him.
God can and will relieve the stress of our cares and sadness, our wants and heartaches, if we will only believe although we can’t see. If we can lift our eyes up from the burdens and troubles before us and look for His glory and grace, I’ll bet we will be able to see evidence of it. If we really look, we will see more and more of His goodness in others and in our world; more of the Unseen in the seen. I pray that you will rest and abide in His everlasting arms and lay your cares before our Unseen but definitely always present God. He will re-tie and connect you to the mighty power of His love.
