Notification: Nov. 24
This update is to inform you that Health Center at Live Oak is now welcoming families and friends into the Health Center. Scheduled appointments and time limits are no longer required for visitations. Visitors are still required to be screened upon entry, and we ask that each visitor continue to log in and out on the Visitor Log at the front desk. Visitors are advised to go directly to the resident's room or designated visitation area. Masks are still required, and social distancing is encouraged.
Savannah at The Oaks has the same visitation guidelines.
Because there is still risk of an outbreak or surge, Health Center at Live Oak and Savannah at The Oaks will continue to avoid "large gatherings (e.g. parties, events) where large numbers of visitors are in the same space at the same time and physical distancing cannot be maintained."
As always, The Oaks will continue to maintain strict infection control standards and expectations.
Notification: Nov. 15
With the federal government’s directive Friday, Nov. 12, to ease many of the remaining pandemic restrictions and allow visits at all times for all skilled nursing residents, Health Center at Live Oak is waiting for the green light from the Louisiana Department of Health to welcome families and friends back into the Health Center.
Throughout the pandemic, the Health Center has followed, as required, mandates and protocols set forth by LDH, in addition to those by Centers for Disease Control. LDH regulates skilled nursing facilities in the state and often its mandates and protocols are more strict than those established by the federal government.
We will share new Health Center visitor information as soon as we get updates from LDH.

Updated: March 16
The Oaks of Louisiana has now received the second Moderna vaccine and is experiencing the longest period without a positive COVID-19 test among staff and residents since the pandemic began. With Louisiana Department of Health visitation restrictions further relaxed on Friday, we are excited to be able to bring loved ones back into Health Center at Live Oak to visit with residents who have endured a year of isolation and uncertainty and complete disruption of their lives. Earlier in the week, communal dining and activities were resumed at the Health Center.
It is important to remember, though, that we have gotten to this point by following suggested protocols and infection control procedures. It is still necessary to wear a mask over the nose and mouth, practice social distancing and limiting contact. Outdoor visitations, the safest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, are preferred and should be conducted whenever possible. Outdoor visitations, the safest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, are preferred and should be conducted whenever possible.
“Since restrictions were initially relaxed last October, the visitation program has gone remarkably well,” says Dr. Joseph Kanter, state health officer. “We thank Louisiana’s facilities for their good work in creating safe environments for our most vulnerable residents and are thrilled to expand visitation further.”
Here’s the latest on Health Center visitation:
• ALL visitations are by appointment only (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday) Call Clara Wilkinson at 212-2000 to schedule a visit at Health Center at Live Oak.
• ALL visitations are limited to 30 minutes per visit.
• ALL visitations are limited to 2 guests per resident at a time.
• All visitors must be screened upon entry.
• All visitors must sign in and out at the Front Desk.
• All visitors must travel directly to their resident’s room upon entry and directly to the exit upon departure.
• Social distancing of at least 6 feet is required at all times outside resident rooms. Limited physical contact is permitted for FULLY VACCINATED residents.
• Please practice good hand washing and mask wearing to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the Health Center.
Savannah visitation guidelines remain as follows:
• ALL visitations are by appointment only (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday) Call Adam Phillips at 455-5023 to schedule a visit at Savannah.
• ALL visitations are limited to 1 hour per visit.
• ALL visitations are limited to 2 guests per resident at a time.
• All visitors must be screened upon entry.
• All visitors must sign in and out at the Front Desk.
• All visitors must travel directly to their resident’s apartment upon entry and directly to the exit upon departure.
• Social distancing of at least 6 feet is required at all times outside resident rooms. Limited physical contact is permitted for FULLY VACCINATED residents and FULLY VACCINATED VISITORS.
• Please practice good hand washing and mask wearing to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at Savannah.
The Oaks of Louisiana will continue to practice all protocols in place prior to and during the pandemic. We will continue to follow CDC and Louisiana Department of Health guidelines and monitor any changes in COVID status within our community and beyond. Should circumstances warrant, we will resume tighter restrictions as needed.
Updated – March 8
What a wonderful way to start a beautiful Monday – Communal dining and activities will resume for Health Center at Live Oak residents effective immediately. Outdoor visits will now be face-to-face, although window visits will still be available.
Continued practice of safety protocols, diligent staff and the majority of residents and staff choosing to be vaccinated against the coronavirus have resulted in several weeks without new positive cases of COVID-19 at the Health Center. We are therefore able to relax some restrictions, much to the delight of everyone at the Health Center. The mood this morning is as bright as sunshine.

A Message to Oaks Families and Friends
Tomorrow, as we pause to count our blessings and reflect on the many reasons we have to be grateful – even in this time of global pandemic – we are most thankful for our residents who call The Oaks of Louisiana home. We are thankful for our Oaks employees who daily provide dedicated and compassionate service to enhance the quality of life for independent, assisted living and skilled nursing residents. We are thankful for everyone who has and continues to work tirelessly to maintain a safe and healthy community. These past months have not been easy, especially emotionally as residents and families have been kept apart by governmental restrictions. Separation during the holidays will be even more emotionally difficult because holidays are for families. We understand residents and families want to be together. Our residents, however, are the most vulnerable to this virus.
One Savannah resident has plans to leave campus for the day and will be required per CDC guidelines to quarantine for 14 days upon return to The Oaks. All Health Center residents will remain on campus. Tower and Garden Apartment residents have been encouraged to stay on campus, but may spend the holiday off campus if they choose. Depending on the type and size of gathering they attend, they may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days as well. Residents throughout campus will enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Day lunch and all the trimmings.
As always, we will continue to follow CDC and Louisiana Department of Health guidelines and take all the necessary procedures and protocols, including regular screening. The continued health and well-being of our residents is our top priority as always. Thank you for your support and understanding. Have a healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

Nearly one month has passed since our last update and, as they say, no news is good news. Actually, it’s GREAT NEWS! Outdoor visits continue at the Health Center and residents and families are enjoying their time together. The visitation schedule is quite full on most days and the beautiful weather we have had has made visits outside quite pleasant. To schedule a visit at Health Center, call Clara Wilkinson at 212-2000. To schedule an outdoor or conference room visit at Savannah, call Adam Phillips at 455-5023. During his press conference last week, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a pilot program will soon be launched to allow managed visitation in a small number of skilled nursing facilities. The facilities eligible for the pilot program will be in parishes that have a positivity rate of 5 percent or lower AND the facility has not had a case of COVID-19 for the previous 14 days. More details will be forthcoming from the Louisiana Department of Health. LDH will contact facilities eligible for the program. At this time, Region 7, which includes Caddo Parish, is not eligible.
When the Louisiana Department of Health announces changes to the visitation restrictions to skilled nursing facilities and provides new visitor regulations, we will announce new changes through our website and on social media.

As Gov. John Bel Edwards and his medical team continue working out details of the new proclamation advancing the state to a Phase 3 reopening beginning Friday, we are cautiously optimistic about what that means for visits to Health Center at Live Oak and Savannah at The Oaks. It has been a challenging time not only for residents and their families but Oaks staff who have provided great care and shown great compassion to residents who have missed their families and their visits terribly these past six months. It was a such a boost to their spirits when window visits were allowed with Phase 2. While Phase 3 states that “visits to senior care facilities and hospitals can resume,” the Louisiana Department of Health has not yet released any information about resuming visits. Therefore, visitor restrictions mandated by the Centers for Disease Control and the Louisiana Department of Health will remain in place until notice is received that restrictions are relaxed or lifted. What we do know at this time is that when visitations resume, they will be limited and expand gradually based on LDH guidelines. Please know we will resume visitations as soon as possible following whatever mandates issued by the LDH. We ask for your continued support and patience. We will update on our website, oaksofla.com, and our Facebook page.
