To the Good People of The Oaks

January 08, 2018

To the Good People of The Oaks,

As one year changes to another, I always feel like this is a grace-filled time. It is like God knows that there are some things that we need to leave back in 2017 as we move into the new year.  Things that we have never let go of or forgiven. Things that if we keep carrying them, sometimes dragging them along, that that weight will make us too tired to be able to handle the next new things God has in store for us in 2018. That is part of what this extra grace is for: to let go of what needs letting go.

The other reason for that grace is for us to be able to start fresh and new as we begin this year.  How do we do that? I always think that New Year’s resolutions are a good thing. I have a great deal of control over this year by the choices I will make. Rather than getting mad when someone sits in my place, why not invite them to sit. Rather than complaining that I am having to wait too long, maybe I will thank God for a few extra moments to offer Him a prayer. I will think of the things I have done wrong before I accuse someone else. I will not be upset over the problems that come my way but see them as opportunities for God’s creative Spirit to work.

I will be kind to those who are unkind because that is how God treats me. If I succeed I will thank Him. If I fail I will ask His pardon. I will invite God into every circumstance of my life.  I will choose goodness. I will make His gift of grace even more abundant by the way I love God and all those He loves.

“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” – Psalm 23:6

Love,
Andrew+
